Job Description

The Building People, LLC, has an immediate opening for an Assistant Project Manager (APM) – Smart Buildings.  We are looking for an entry-level project management professional who can support a very fast-growing and dynamic part of our business.  Specifically, the APM will assist with the deployment, integration and management of smart buildings and internet of things (IoT) technology within federal and commercial facilities.  The ideal candidate is a highly organized and proactive individual with strong communication skills. They will support project managers in coordinating and monitoring project activities, ensuring deadlines are met, and fostering effective teamwork among team members.

Skills & Requirements

Required Experience & Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work with a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers.
  • Develop and maintain detailed meeting minutes for all project meetings, accurately capturing and summarizing key discussions, action items, and decisions.
  • Ability to assist with all aspects of the project engagement from planning, subcontract and external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks and issues and ensure overall project is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of the strategic objectives.
  • Assist with resource scheduling by coordinating team availability and allocating resources based on project requirements, ensuring efficient utilization and timely task completion.
  • Maintain and update Gantt charts to visually represent project timelines, milestones, and dependencies, facilitating effective tracking and communication of project progress.
  • Support in preparing and distributing project deliverables, ensuring they meet quality standards and are delivered within established timelines, contributing to overall project success and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Effectively utilize company resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered.

 

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Prior Project Management experience
  • Proficient in Smartsheet or related software
  • Experience working with federal and commercial clients IT systems and integration of new software/hardware platforms. 
  • Knowledge of major building systems (e.g., HVAC)
  • Experience with firmware and hardware projects in addition to software based projects

 

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS/BEng/BArch) from College or University and/or equivalent related experience.

 

Travel

  • Travel may be required based on client location (domestic)
