Job Description

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Fire Technician II for the facilities engineering program to support a federal Agency.  Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conducting routine maintenance and inspection of all facility fire suppression and alarm systems as required by fire life and safety codes and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of fire alarms, sprinklers, control panel, pumps, and other components as it relates to fire code compliance and fire life safety.
  • Performs all the duties of a Fire Technician I, in addition to the following. 
  • Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. 
  • Applies technical knowledge to perform simple or routine tasks following detailed instructions. 
  • Receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician. 
  • Work is spot-checked for accuracy
Skills & Requirements

Required Skills/Experience:

  • NICET 3: Wet suppression***
  • A minimum of 5 years of water-based fire protection systems layout, involving the complete layout of sprinkler and standpipe systems, including hydraulic calculations, for a variety of applications, and which may include management of water-based system layout projects and/or code compliance.
  • Trained on fire alarm systems (i.e., Simplex and Notifier).
  • Must have the communication skills required to interface and coordinate with other technicians.
  • Capable of performing physical labor including, walking, standing, lift up to 40lbs, pulling, climbing up and down ladders and agility/dexterity to perform duties assigned.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience working from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals
