The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Communications Specialist on the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) communications team which supports internal and external stakeholder engagement efforts for EERE.
The Communications Specialist helps communicate the EERE office’s mission, activities, and goals externally and internally. Using a variety of tactics and strategies, this person will help convey the science behind the office’s research and elevate the awareness of the office’s activities to stakeholders, the public, and Energy Department leadership. The Communications Specialist will:
- Perform analysis and develops briefing summaries for high-ranking EERE staff (such as the Assistant Secretary; PDAS; etc) on stakeholder events they plan to attend.
- Support the PDAS in identifying, organizing, and analyses in response to various stakeholders needs and requests (DOE, White House, Congressional, Industry, etc.).
- Review EERE technical and strategic documents to best identify which EERE offices have equities in the topics of meetings and workshops that PDAS is attending. Including but not limited to vision studies, roadmaps, multi-year program plans, reports, briefings, etc.
- Review technical reports, white papers, DOE and other Agency reports, policies or other current articles affecting the programs, budget documents, and outreach materials to extract relevant findings to inform EERE front Office
- Organize or participate in (virtual or in-person) conferences, workshops, peer reviews, interagency meetings, and other program meetings and develop summary documents that track action items and/or outcomes.
- Conduct background research and write memos for leadership regarding stakeholder requests and events they plan to attend.
- Support the EERE leadership in identifying, organizing, and analyses in response to various stakeholders needs and requests (DOE, White House, Congressional, Industry, etc.).
- Monitor stakeholder inbox, track inquires, close out responses, and provide weekly updates to leadership and full stakeholder team.
- Schedule virtual or in-person meetings and track engagements in stakeholder calendar.
- Draft meeting agendas / materials and track action items and meeting outcomes.
- Gather information from different sources throughout EERE to respond to external stakeholders
- Write responses and develop resources for external stakeholders.
Required Experience & Skills
- 4 (four) years’ experience. Master’s Degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Strong oral communication skills
- Detailed oriented; able to track multiple projects and tasks.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Energy industry knowledge a plus
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree
