Job Description

Description/Job Summary:

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Boiler Tech. They will have the responsibility of operating, maintaining, testing, modifying, adjusting and repairing boilers and associated equipment and systems (such as steam and geothermal heat pumps).  Steam pressures, water temperatures, and levels are to be maintained at all times, and all piping, electrical, and control systems are to be serviced and maintained. The Boiler Tech shall make all necessary repairs and adjustments to the facility heating infrastructure and equipment to correct reported or identified deficiencies and maintain required operations. Repairs and adjustments shall be made in accordance with equipment specifications and manufacturers' instructions. 

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Inspect, maintain, test, modify, adjust and repair boiler related systems, and components at USMMA. These activities include, but are not limited to:  
  • Recording systems operating conditions daily 
  • Maintaining, repairing and replacing components as necessary for efficient operation
  • Cleaning nozzles and oil filters
  • Repacking valves
  • Greasing and oiling motors and other equipment
  • Checking and maintaining motors and ensuring proper impeller rotation
  • Checking and cleaning traps
  • Adjusting controls for safe and economic operation
  • Performing annual inspections, safety checks, and cleaning between May and September and include pressure testing the vessel, testing all safety components and document the results
Skills & Requirements

Required Skills:

  • High level of boiler maintenance, troubleshooting and repair expertise
  • Maintenance Documentation completion and filing 
  • Customer Service Skills 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and familiar with CMMS 
  • Excellent Organizational skills 

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior maintenance experience in a scientific laboratory 

Required Education and Certification:

  • Highschool diploma or GED
  • High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer License

Additional Requirements:

  • Clear public trust background investigation.
