Job Description

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Senior Fire Protection Engineer.  The role offers remote schedules for the right candidate with required travel to DHA facilities.

Job Description:

  • Designs and reviews fire protection systems that include detection mechanisms, alarms and notifications, and fire suppression components. Prepares schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents.
  • Coordinates and provides leadership to the Engineering Infrastructure team in all matters related to fire protection systems in support of the MHS mission. Plans and directs engineering activity projects related to fire safety.
  • Uses a broad range of CAD/BIM and other software and fire protection code/standards to provide the plans, specification, hydraulic calculations, material lists, fabrication details, and other documentation for DHA/FE and DHA/FOB projects.
  • Meets all required state and local codes, authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements, Joint Commission for Healthcare Accreditation, and DoD standards in the development of fire protection systems.
  • Conducts building fire protection, code, and life safety evaluations.
  • Prepares and presents technical reports and presentations. Performs field analysis with associated reports and presentations.
  • Performs functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of systems delivered through the point-by-point verification of design, installation, functionality and performance of existing and newly installed fire protection equipment and systems.
  • Coordinates with project managers to support facility modifications and other projects to ensure scope and specification compliance for major and minor projects involving fire protection equipment and systems.
  • Evaluate proposed projects and technical solutions based on need, code compliance, effectiveness, and life cycle cost.
  • Answer technical Requests for Information (RFIs) in accordance with codes, regulations, and DHA policy and procedures.
  • Travel to sites to investigate open requirement packages and conduct detailed inspections of existing conditions of equipment, evaluate the effectiveness of current maintenance procedures, and confirm the use of correct operational practices.
  • Provide a comprehensive and formal travel report detailing the observations, findings, and recommendations conveyed in a technical manner that remains consumable by a non-engineer.

 

Notice $125,000-$155,000 Skills & Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Protection Engineering. 
  • Demonstrated minimum of five (5) year practical experience in the design/construction field. Practical experience is defined as having the direct responsibility for execution of design, construction, major repair, or management of mechanical infrastructure systems. Three years of this experience must have occurred in the last four years to qualify as recent.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Ability to obtain security clearance is required
  • Travel approximately 6-12 times per year

Preferred Skills:

  • PE highly preferred.
  • Multifaceted skills and extensive practical experience in the mechanical trade discipline necessary to accurately analyze plans, data, designs, operations and maintenance practices and the management thereof.
  • Possess those skills necessary to facilitate the development of estimates and makes recommendations for repairs, sustainment, and optimizations of building infrastructure systems.
  • Knowledgeable of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
