Position:                                 MS Chinese Language (Part-time 0.6FTE)

School Section:                     Middle School

Period of Appointment:        1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027 (5 months maternity cover)

Key Responsibilities

Guided by the standards and practices of our partner agencies (IB, NEASC, CIS) and our strategic direction, the role of a teacher at WAB includes:

1. Planning & Reflection

  • Ensure teaching approaches align with WAB’s Curriculum Policy and sectional guidelines.
  • Collaborate on year overviews and units with clear learning objectives.
  • Utilize WAB's curriculum, and subject area knowledge, to effectively plan and implement the taught curriculum, informed by IB, NEASC, and CIS principles
  • Accurately document the planned and taught curriculum in agreed-upon platforms.
  • Actively seek and utilize student feedback to gain insights into their experiences, reflecting on and improving teaching practices.

2. Instruction for Impactful Learning

  • Implement teaching strategies informed by IB, NEASC, and CIS in classroom interactions and beyond.
  • Demonstrate depth of subject/ content knowledge to expertly crafting learning experiences.
  • Manage student behavior using effective strategies aimed at increasing independent regulation of emotions and behavior, in line with WAB's Behavior Management Philosophy.
  • Foster a joyful and engaging learning environment that encourages active participation and personal growth.

3. Assessment, Feedback & Reporting

  • Align teaching and assessment practices with WAB’s Assessment Policy.
  • Utilize WAB’s assessment approaches in classroom engagements and feedback.
  • Accurately assess and document student learning.
  • Use data to inform instruction and curriculum development.
  • Engage in standardization and moderation with colleagues to ensure fairness.
  • Provide clear, timely, and actionable feedback to students and parents.

4. Inclusive Teaching Practices

  • Align teaching with WAB’s Inclusion and Language policies.
  • Plan and teach for learner variability, intentionally removing barriers to learning.
  • Integrate and teach Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies into the academic curriculum.
  • Collaborate with student support services to meet diverse needs.
  • Utilize culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices.

5. Community Engagement

  • Participate in After School Activities (ASA), school events, and trips (day and overnight).
  • Create opportunities for student showcases and community service.
  • Make sustainable choices in expenditures.
  • Contributing to inclusive discussions that foster collaboration, share insights, and drive project success through innovative solutions and enhanced team dynamics

6. Innovation & Professional Learning

  • Implement innovative teaching methods and share insights with colleagues.
  • Track progress of innovative practices and engage in problem-solving.
  • Commit to ongoing professional learning and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.

7. Parent Partnership

  • Maintain duty of care for students 
  • Communicate regularly and clearly with parents about their children's learning progress, providing strategies for support at home, and promptly addressing any incidents or concerns.

8. Professionalism

  • Know and follow WAB's Code of Conduct, Policies, and Playbooks.
  • Exhibit punctuality, organization, reliability, and adaptability.
  • Stay informed on WAB communications and provide respectful and timely responses (bulletins, WAB Weekly, messages in Teams, etc.).
  • Support school initiatives and foster an inclusive, trusting community spirit.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with WAB community members.
  • Take responsibility for and actively contribute to a positive climate and culture.
  • Seek and act on feedback to continuously improve teaching practices and collaboration.
  • Respond calmly to emergencies and implement safety protocols effectively.
