Job Description Nammo Defense Systems, Inc., a defense contractor, is the primary USA operation of the Nammo Group (Nammo AS). Nammo Defense Systems Inc. (NDS) develops, manufactures, and supports Shoulder Launched Munitions (SLMs), energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aerospace structures.

JOB OVERVIEW:
Manufacturing Engineers at NDS Mesa analyze, design, develop, and implement methods to produce Nammo products that support the warfighter. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the process, tooling, work instructions, and training required to deliver product safely, efficiently, and on time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Author and maintain product assembly work instructions
• Develop and define requirements for tooling, equipment, and processes 
• Active member of integrated product team responsible for determining rework/repair feasibility of defective product. Author instructions to return product to conforming condition
• Provide hands-on assembly training to operations team
• Evaluate existing equipment and / or systems for methods to improve safety, performance, quality, efficiency, reliability
• Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process
• Define and author maintenance procedures for equipment and tooling through coordination with maintenance team
• Identify and champion continuous improvement projects
• Coordinate, document, and perform validation of process changes, tooling, and manufacturing equipment
• Review and provide feedback on product designs to ensure manufacturability
• Troubleshoot and resolve tooling and equipment electrical/mechanical issues
• Author and give presentations summarizing progress on selected projects and programs to both internal and external customers.
• Participate in and support internal and external audits
• Follow safety guidelines

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

• BS/MS in Engineering discipline or Physics with ability to perform basic engineering analyses (stress, deflection, flow rate, pressure drop, and tolerance stack-up)
• Solid understanding of metal working tolerances produced by milling, grinding, turning, and laser/water jet cutting
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing and applying statistics in a manufacturing setting
• Experience designing, installing, and qualifying production equipment including hand tools, fixtures, gages, and semi-automated equipment
• Proficiency at authoring technical documents such as work instructions, test plans, test reports, standard operating procedures, and project reports.
• Knowledge and experience with selection of materials commonly used in tools, gages, and assembly fixtures
• Capable of performing basic stress analysis using hand calculations and/or FEA software
• Basic understanding of pneumatics, controls, sensors, and PLC’s
• Basic understanding and experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), and process hazard analysis (PHA)
• Ability to obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations
Preferred:
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with composite wet filament winding 
• 3+ years of experience in supporting manufacturing in a production facility certified to AS9100 or a similar quality management system.
• Hands on experience with CNC machining and OD grinding including tooling selection, setup, and programming.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Full-time on-site position.
• This position may require travel up to 10% on an as-need basis. 
• Work with explosives, pyrotechnics, and solid rocket propellant devices.
• This role may involve working in diverse settings and conditions.
