As a Senior Software Engineer on our team, you will work closely with our Personalization product. Our Personalization team provides solutions to difficult challenges involving Machine Learning, statistics, data visualization, real-time decisioning, and user interface on a global scale.

What You’ll Do

• Write clear, concise, well-structured, well-tested code that provides new features and improvements to existing services using Python, Perl, Javascript, and React
• Break down complex requirements into independent coding tasks and strategies
• Partner with talented engineers in an Agile environment to help to build a highly scalable product
• Ship code to our production environment on a regular basis
• Collaborate throughout the software development life cycle with product management, UX, support, professional services, and other engineering teams
• Research and integrate the best of technologies/frameworks/libraries
• Actively engage in technical design, code reviews, and testing

What You’ll Need

Experience

• 4+ years’ experience as a Software Engineer in a production environment 
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent; 
• Fluency in Python and experience developing in a Linux environment needed

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Front-end experience utilizing Javascript and JS Frameworks (React, Angular, etc.)
• Proficient SQL skills, with hands-on experience in Snowflake and MySQL
• Knowledge of RESTful web services and APIs
• Understanding of Database design and experience writing SQL queries against a data warehouse
• Prior experience in technical design and leading coding reviews

Working Conditions

• Must be based in South Africa, preferably in or near a major metro area such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, or Pretoria.
• Must maintain a stable and reliable internet connection with speeds of at least 50 Mbps to ensure optimal performance in a remote work environment.
• Must be available to provide services during US or European business hours, as agreed in the service contract.
• Must be able to obtain an international passport and be open to occasional travel (Monetate may provide guidance on the passport application process if needed).

Engagement Terms

• This role has no direct reports.
• The contractor will have autonomy to determine the methods, processes, and schedule for completing deliverables, subject to agreed-upon project milestones and deadlines.
• Compensation will be based on a fixed fee or hourly rate for services rendered, as outlined in the service agreement.
• The contractor is responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, and compliance with local regulations.
