About the Role:

U.S. Pipe is seeking a Quality Control Technician for our U.S. Pipe plant in Bessemer, Alabama. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the product meets customer’s requirements (both internal and external) at each stage of its manufacturing process, carrying out relevant testing and where necessary take corrective action to rectify non-conformance issues. Report quality issues data, ensuring the Quality Management System is adhered to at all stages.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Check dimensions of pipe spigots, grind spigots and cut and taper pipe spigots when required.
  • Ensure that pipe bells are of good quality and within specifications by visual inspection, gauging, and by performing minor salvage work.
  • Weigh pipe on pipe weighs scales and marks pipe accordingly or applies label.
  • Perform many or all of the following duties on in-process (WIP) pipe, depending upon the job assignment: visually inspect gauges, record data, calipers, measure, tape, mark, labels.
  • Perform inspection duties on finished products and accessories (both incoming and outgoing) on the shipping yard. Perform inspection duties on pipe linings at the cement lining facility and general inspection duties on products in the packaging department.
  • Inspect pipe spigot visually and with calipers to ensure that pipe spigot is acceptable and within specifications.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED, basic math skills, and a minimum of 1 year manufacturing experience is required.
  • Previous foundry knowledge around melting, casting, annealing, inspection and testing procedures is desired.
